Acta Poloniae Historica

Acta Poloniae Historica (APH), published by the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) in collaboration with the Institute of History PAS Foundation, is a semi-annual journal with a rich tradition in Polish historiography and recognized internationally among historical periodicals. Founded in 1958 by the eminent Polish historian Marian Małowist (1909–1988), the journal primarily aims to promote the research achievements of Polish scholars to an English-speaking audience.

APH also welcomes contributions from historians outside Poland who study the history of Polish lands and the broader region of Central and Eastern Europe. The journal is open to diverse methodological approaches and research topics, ranging from 'traditional' political, economic, social, and cultural history to newly emerging fields of historical inquiry and innovative methodologies. The Editorial Board actively collaborates with Guest Editors, reflecting the journal's commitment to presenting and debating the latest research and findings from significant scholarly projects.

Acta Poloniae Historica, published entirely in English, has been on the Scopus list of Journals, the Journal Master List and the ERIH PLUS (INT-1) list.  The journal is made available on an open-access basis, which means free access to the digital, online version.

Each issue has a specific structure: articles (Studies), Reviews, and occasionally reports on a noteworthy scientific event (Chronicle). Starting with Volume 107, the journal has a new section – Archive, presenting an archival article by an eminent Polish historian. This section contains articles that have played an essential role in developing historical research and are not yet available in English.

In recent years, most of the issues have been entirely or largely monographic (special issues) and are devoted to issues that are particularly actively researched and discussed.

Acta Poloniae Historica, published entirely in English, has been on the Journal Master List and the ERIH PLUS (INT-1) list for over 25 years. The journal is made available on an open-access basis, which means free access to the digital, online version.

Between 2016 and 2021, the journal benefited from funding obtained from the National Programme for the Development of Humanities, under which eleven volumes (114–123, 125) were published. Currently, it is a two-year project “Development for Scientific Journals” of the Ministry of Education and Science.

All of the Journal publications are published free of charge, without publication fees or article processing charges (APC). The Journal is financed by the State budget.
